(I'll preface this by saying I'm in no way a nickel guy, but trying to absorb nickel know-how as I go) I went MS, because I was under the impression that proof Jeffersons have (or are expected to have) full steps. The rims were screaming at me that it was a proof, but I held back because of the mushy steps. Am I way off base, or does the FS apply to later date proofs? Or not at all?
Thanks guys. I really am happy with this newest addition to my collection. I was curious about the FS on this as well. But after looking at images of Proof 1938 Jefferson Nickels on PCGS CoinFacts, it looks like this particular year is tough if not nearly impossible to find with fully defined clean looking steps. I'm assuming it's why they redesigned the reverse. So I wasn't too worried about the "mushy" looking steps. What I really like about it, is it's a first year coin, the color and it's a variety.
