Please guess the grade of the 1938 Jefferson Nickel shown below by voting in the attached poll. I have added the option of choosing a "+ grade" at the end of the poll. If you think the coin deserves a +, choose both the numerical grade and the
    "+ grade" option.

Please make your grade determination and cast your vote before scrolling down to read the responses to the thread.

67...this one looks cleaner and possibly more lustrous than the other one...one mark in the hair might be a concern m

I was expecting MS66 or MS66+ on this one. Ok @Razz, what did you see that nobody else saw?

I think it was the nicks on the rims (6 o'clock on the obverse as an example), bust and Monticello that are not just Planchet hits not fully struck out. Kind of an overall feeling of not 66 luster.

OK, so the total grading fees cost more than the coin is worth, but the grade was wrong and everyone knew it, and I just couldn't let the injustice go.

Glad you got this one where it belongs. Not sure what NGC was thinking having this coin at 64.

Well that photo in the PCGS slab shows the luster better than the other photos...

I still think that's a 67 coin, if not 66+ at the least. NGC was out to lunch on this one.

I thought it was MS66+ which was the whole reason I submitted it in the first place. Once it comes back in MS64 plastic, it is actually worth less than it would be raw. Rather than sell it raw, I decided since I was already losing money, I should send it to PCGS and at least get vindication.

I was going to post MS66 (PCGS) until I scrolled down and holy moly was NGC tough on that coin. There is no freaking way that's a 64.
