Ok reveal time! Im not real pleased with this grade. Ive seen 1927's in MS-65 with more hits. I personally though it should be 64 but here's what they gave it:

It has good luster and thin hints of purple and blue toning in the right light. Maybe they didnt like the strike. Not sure.

As you said, she has good luster, but not enough luster for a choice UNC grade. Also the strike is indeed weak, which likely prevented a higher grade. It's still a very nice coin with only a few hits - where's the CAC sticker? :) :)

My guess of 62 was not just luck, I sent one to PCGS a few months back that I was sure would grade 64 minimum. Came back 62:banghead: Yours is as succulent as mine, very disappointing......I'll try and post a pic of mine when I get home. You got a sweet coin there Evan, it's 64+ to me:)

I don't think it's the hits as much as the strike that gave it a 62

New guy learning to grade here. When you all talk about the strike on this coin are you referring to the reverse, obverse, or both? I can see the reverse not having a strong strike but not the obverse on this one.

Since they are struck at the same time, they would have been struck with equal pressure. On this particular coin, the weaknesses is the high points of the obverse had quite a few of us guessing that it had some slight circulation wear. It's hard to differentiate between a weak strike and slight circulation with images. In hand, circulation wear will appear slightly darker than the surrounding area when held at an angle.
