Since it seems like a lot these GTG's are ms 62-65, it might be interesting to play with a circulated coin. Any guesses? EDIT forgot the V's in the pool, but you know I meant
I see slightly better definition on the robes and minutia and at least close to an FH, unlike this one, compare and contrast the left leg (both in fact) - you be the judge (ebay pic):
My vote would be EF-45 sharpness, but I would say that the toning is detrimental and constitutes environmental damage. The reverse fields look pitted to me.
40 The coin is so attractive, it almost looks like a Chinese counterfeit, but nicer. (Not sure if that statement will come off correctly, it's a total compliment for the coin.)
I agree, it looks like a „very nice fake“ :-D Seriously, I think this coin shouldn‘t grade due to environmental damage. It has this appealing circ-cam look though...
Thanks everyone for your thoughts. My thoughts were I had to buy it if the bidding didn't get too high, and I thought I did pretty good at under $120, I just really dig the look. I also thought with the detail present in the drapery at the bottom of the shield and across her body, as well as the toes and the rivets on the shield that maybe it was slightly undergraded at 40. I just like circulated coins with a bit of patina. I carry the coin pictured below in my pocket,, same type of look,, but not as nice. . I even let my pocket knife take on a patina.
ANACS net graded the coin from AU sharpness to EF-40. If you get hung up on this look, it will cost you a lot of money in the long run. The acid test comes when you get ready to sell your coins. I've been there and learned to avoid the pitfalls.
