20170919_094218.jpg 20170919_100606.jpg Cherrypicked this out of a group lot that only pictured it's reverse and had it cataloged as type 2. Pretty poor pic but I didn't see any stars. What do you think? Would it make it? The chatter is more visible in the pics on the reverse but doesn't really detract from the coin.

Lots of chatter and Hairlines on Reverse but Obverse is very nice. I'm going to say

    MS-64

Very nice type 1! MS-62 the hairline scratches really hurts the coin but it looks like it has a lot of luster and detail.

    I'd say MS63 . . . but on a good day, who knows?

Definitely a type 1, the low eagle on the reverse is the easiest giveaway. I'd call it MS-64

Does not look strict uncirculated to me.

it's been cleaned so harshly that I gave it benefit of doubt and said MS details rather than AU deatils. Either way, problem coin.

Forgive the skepticism, but we’d like to see that one when it comes back.

Can't say I have an argument with the grade. The coin has definitely been dipped - you don't get stuff as dark as the left reverse rim without toning on more of the coin, and I consider that conclusive evidence of a past dip. The TPG, in their "wisdom," decided the market could bear the look and offered a market grade.

so did it grade where you thought it would grade?

I'll say that I was skeptical after receiving it and seeing the hairlines, and reading all of your comments, but the AU bit was a little surprising. I had it pegged more towards the 62-64 range, but was expecting it to come back in a details slab.

Well, I guessed it would be an MS63 a month ago, so I suppose I won't leave my day job just yet.

Oh, well. What do I know? I'd say it's a welcome addition to your collection.
