Looks AU to me. I'd call it AU58. Looks like the cheekbone has a flat spot that looks like more than just a weak strike.
I saw that too. It's the first place to go on these, really. I guess the graders saw it as insignificant, which I guess I can also appreciate.
@Santinidollar , I've been watching and learning, a bit, and I'm gonna go with...MS62, Another amazing example of your collection.
[Post reveal] When it comes to gold, particularly gold with an incuse design, most numismatic mortals struggle/flail/hallucinate when grading. That said, I feel NGC [Insert moment of deferential silence here] was unduly harsh. MS-63 at a minimum. A beautiful specimen.
Did not look anything like AU to me. There was no wear on that coin. Gold coins often have a flatter look than other metals. One has to look carefully at the details of the devices, not for flat spots. Stringed of this entire series tend to be below average.
Well that gives me lots of hope for the raw one I just bought! I would have called it AU but its nicer than the one in the OP coin.
For an MS63 you can expect more Luster. This Coin is proper graded at MS62 and should earn a Green Bean.
Or in a rush, a Friday afternoon/getaway day, maybe a bad Monday, etc...all things that affect all work of all kinds by all humans.
