It looks like a winged insect hovering in front of Liberty's face, trying to decide whether to fly into her mouth or up her nose.

    I think MS65 is reasonable.
Looks more like the Playboy Bunny.

What is 160? Your right, just someone trying to remove the copper struck thru, so scratched.

For all those that gave it a strait grade. Do you think that it deserves a strait grade?

These marks were not from just handling or circulation, they were more or less intentional.
The photo doesn't even do them justice. LOL

PS I am gonna wait till the morning to post the grade.

160 = 1 (detail grade) 60 (MS) on our computer system.

I would send your coin to the next grader as either: Unc Details Spot Removal or better yet, Unc details damaged because of the large scrapes.

The hell you are! Post it now! I have things to get done around here and everything's on the back burner now.

First impression...MS 62....strong luster but the grade is kept down by the marks on the cheek, neck, and the fields. Also the black streak looks distracting (if that is on the coin).

Looking at it again, I think it still straight graded (net grade). If it went above 63, that isn't right in my view as that type of scratch should net it down a few points. In my system, I would have leaned towards a details grade.

I'm sure that talked him into it. Now we won't hear the grade for another week. :D

He needs to get that black mark out. I'd dip it again. A second dip isn't going to hurt it anymore than the first dip did.

I guess my grade of 63 was a silent net grade...overall looks better but a noticeable flaw is present.
It probably shouldn't straight grade, or the scratch should be noted on the holder. But I can see lower mint state as sort of a market grade.

I could see some heavier scratches taking a coin that is blazing like this one down a few grades. As a market grade. But not intentional scratches. These scratch's were made by someone trying to remove the embedded copper spot.
In hand looking at the damage you would definitely say the same thing.

I didn't buy the coin, It would be a good example to have in a MS details/cleaned holder. It's an otherwise beautiful coin

I do not understand the grade assigned. Those are clearly digs from trying to remove the embedded (?)object.

Some of us have deduced such...but not all. To me, this example is not (large, obvious and/or complicated/sophisticated) enough to show willful human effort as "graffiti"...plus indeed should receive a straight grade with "mark in obv field" noted.

I misspoke earlier about graffiti. But this coin is clearly not a strait grade MS coin. The removal was intentional, which by all other factors should details or AU the coin.

without the marks, it should grade straight, but I could never get past that dark line in the obv field no matter how much luster it has .

It has to lose that mark. That's why it's not retailing in gem in that market.

Why not let NGC preserve it?
