Oops, i cant edit now its too late. Doug/Mods if this is against policy plz take it down. Then i will re-post in correct forum
Ok, ok im late by a smidge..... Grand prize winner is...... Harris the accumulator..... Congrats, you earned it
This being the only reverse facing slab i recall ever owning.... Someone told me the TPGs only do this by request. I have a couple other morgans that i wish were slabbed like this. One last thing: these blue Anacs slabs sure are poorly constructed. I dropped this coin and poof, the corner just fell off of it.. Anacs does a great job grading morgans I must say. Thx 4 playing
That part was either touching something with a high sulfur content like paper or cardboard , or was the side exposed to the air which also carries sulfides , O2 . These things are needed for toning to take place . Moisture helps the toning process too .
AU details, looks like reverse field rubs or cleaning. The capsule does not look to be scratched on the outside diameter of coin that would to me indicate the capsule is in good shape but the coin has the rubs. The capsule could be scuffed up, I would have to hold it to really tell. Send it to me to have a closer look. I like the coin and the camo.
Green I'm with you on this one. I guessed a 64 as I had a few rolls of the 04 O ' s most all graded a 64. Same type of frosting on them all.
To steal a quote from Mr Wayne Miller " an AU coin will have a gray appearance in the fields" .... When evaluating an O mint morgan especially 04o you hafta take into account the # of bagmarks/scratches... If you see a flat spot above the ear and no breast feathers you hafta evaluate the luster and look to the fields to differentiate wear from a weak strike. If this was an `81s, your statement would be more accurate
Oh and here is another neat trick I just remembered; look at the eagles talons, it takes ALOT of circulation for that part of the coin to wear. If the talons are flat but the coin has luster then odds are; its a weak strike
The very poor strike on the ear and the hair above the ear should preclude this from receiving a grade higher than MS64, and yes, I am aware that some of the New Orleans pieces are not as well struck as say the early San Francisco minted pieces. With regards to your photos, they do not adequately allow me to assess the surfaces or the luster, but my thought is that the coin is probably MS63 with a shot at MS64.
