They don’t factor The + in issuing the bean. A CAC coin is high in grade, and generally is seen as a superior, more attractive coin for the grade. It does not necessarily mean “knocking on the door of the next highest grade”. It denotes a very superior coin for the grade, and eye appeal is a huge factor.

That's what I thought as far as the bean goes. But...when I see a TPG add the "+" to a grade...to me that should be the same thing...superior for the grade. Maybe not knocking on 67s door, but there should be no doubt it is a 66. I don't feel this way with this coin.

For an "O" mint, that looks to have great rich luster. Usually, they are more satiny.

Your first photos really showed the surface disturbances on the high cheek and jaw area. Your photo of the coin and slab show they are much less distracting than in your first set.

I do feel one of the marks on the high cheek is distracting. Those fields though look great. I'd love to see that coin in-hand. Beautiful!

Typically that depends on the year. Years that are well struck tend to have better luster. 1899 is a well struck year.

Tuff to grade for such a nice coin with multiple wacks on it. I saw much quality but just trying to wrap my head around a 66+ not in my book. But think your right. Thanks for the inlightment

Here's the thing about this coin. We all instantly are drawn to that cheek (in general probably but with this one because of the change in color your eye goes right there). If we are instantly drawn there, so were all the graders and so was CAC and they all still were comfortable with the grade.

Funny because one Morgan I had that just looked awful in every picture I ever attempted was also a 66+ CAC. If I did a GTG with my images it would have averaged MS64 but in hand it was a beauty.

And, I don't blame anyone for feeling like this is a 65. That is what I presented in the photos. One can even say that PCGS is not infallible,
and they over graded the coin, especially adding a plus to the coin.
That is your interpretation, It would also be mine if I was trying to buy the coin from the pics provided.
The kicker for me is the CAC. Not only did I feel that it was a solid 66 in hand, but, whoever sent the coin to CAC also felt that it was solid for a 66. I don't feel that CAC is in the business to justify an unworthy coin. My photos are just unworthy to show you why it is a 66+ with a CAC.
Honestly, non of you will actually get to see the coin to confirm.
Because, I am happy with it, and it will stay in my collection for a long time to come.

You know...I have said many times that coins are worth what someone will pay for them. If you find a coin that had outstanding eye appeal it will sell for more money than a coin at its grade usually will. This coin is a MS65 coin...but it has outstanding eye appeal which is why it was likely graded higher. I’m not saying it’s worth 65 money.

As the purist that I have come to know you to be, also one I strive to be for my own collection, This is a coin that should be seen in hand before you can make a positive assessment. It is just one of those coins.

I have no doubt. The coin looks to be a real beauty. These are the kinds of coins I seek out for my collection. I want the booking eye appeal.

I mentioned a coin in another thread that I bought a few months ago for $350. It has screaming eye appeal. I probably could have gotten a “normal” one for $275 but I had to have this one. Im so happy I did.

I personally think this is independent of the technical grade. The TPGs tend to upgrade the grade on these types of coins...I think to justify the increased cost they sell for. Because of the eye appeal this coin is worth 66 money even if it really isn’t a 66. I think the TPGs sometimes factor in eye appeal to their grade more than they should.

Certainly a coin to be proud of.
