I can see that as a straight grade too. As being market acceptable This pic the surfaces look more natural but the coin has obviously been dipped and to me is very close to being overdipped in hand I may feel differently but that was my read on the pics
Late to this party, but the NGC grade looks right on. The coin was obviously dipped, and that did dull the luster a bit. However, were it not for the muted luster, the coin is a clear slider—AU 58 to MS 62.
Actually, the photos I posted under-represent the coin. After working harder on realism, the following are much closer . . .
Looking at those pictures, the coin may have been dipped, but not heavily. These pictures are much more illustrative. There is luster still present. Know what? With these pictures, I don’t think the coin has circulated. I think it has had heavy bag storage contact, and I believe that it is low grade MS—as in MS 61.
Have to agree here, I'm not seeing the rub. I stand by my 61 guess. Pretty significant difference in value there... might be worth resubmitting.
Another person late to the party...I was at AU58 to MS 61 before seeing the reveal and was not at all surprised to see AU 58. The New Orleans Mint usually produced weak strikes coupled with tired dies. The bag marks apparently contributed to the market grade given by the TPG.
