I like that.........though, at my age, find myself troubling true to hold mine throughout the night. I could be secretary of state, because I'd be up at off times.
But I will compromise, I'll reveal around 6 pm EDT, and not make you guys wait until 1 am. See, I'm nice, even if I'm grumpy.
I agree with the majority that it's technically a beautiful 58. My experience with TPGs recently says it could be anywhere from 50 to 64 and a details slab wouldn't shock me. My guess at what NGC said this time is MS61.
That's better than taking pills to get you up in the middle of the night. But maybe when you get to my age you will be on the pill too. Will change my name to laughing DAWG.LOL
Sorry everyone, I was running behind. Ok, so NGC gave this a 63, so most of you were right. This coin has been hit pretty hard on 2 forums now, and I'm honestly not sure why. The thread on the reverse is an indicator of wear, but is commonly struck weak. I've looked at a ton of the Isabella's on PCGS, and even many of the 64's have the weak thread. As for the obverse, there is a scratch on the slab right at the center jewel of the crown, and I know that was mistaken on the other forum as wear or a hit. But, even through the holder, I can see undisturbed luster there (and throughout). But anyway...
It started off at 63, then someone said the thread was worn, and after that it was 55 from everyone, with a 58 thrown in.
Now I feel bad that I was the low man. Not that I didn't like the coin, she's beautiful, I had tried to figure out why the reverse appeared to show so much wear and not so luster. I'm in no way an expert in these coins but have looked at hundreds because I have wanted to add one to my collection for a while now. I never look at what they are graded and don't care if they are, just trying to find the sharp needle that I would be happy to be stuck with.
Don't feel bad. I can see why people were thinking in the AU ranges. I think part of it is due to a lack of general familiarity with the coin (and series), unlike general issue coins that people are extraordinarily knowledgeable. Heck, I can't even find grading guides on anything in the series.
Now that I can see the holder, I can understand some of the lower grades given. I have several slabs which I am sending in for a reholder because of the difficulty of properly viewing the coin. When I offer these for sale, they won't be so confusing for the buyer.
I have a bunch of slabs that are pretty scuffed up. I'm going to try PlastX plastic polish before I decide to send them in. I had thought about using phone/tablet screen protectors, but they didn't work out too well (bubbles).
