Morgandude11 As long as it's Silver, I'm listening

That is a really interesting coin. Is it a mix of Copper in the Silver, or just a partial coating? How the two combined is the mystery, and it is, indeed, an interesting coin. It looks like a technical 63 to me, but who knows what PCGS said about it?

Then the reverse is just irregular toning, which (IMO) ought not be considered "NT."

The color is still off to me, and your images look to be correctly color balanced. May just be a photographic anomaly anyways.

I wrote off the struck through spot as a toning spot from a pin hole in the mylar widow of a cardboard holder.

I dunno Dave. I had the exact same thought as you when I first saw it. She needs an XRF. Maybe it was a "not enough label space" thing so they just went with the obverse s/t

My question is if the coin is a fragment strike thru, how did the copper leech into the surround metal right around the fragment?

Copper is a VERY soft metal. I'm guessing it just appears that way as the copper acted like a water balloon going splat under the pressure. Just a guess though. Haven't seen many of these

I can't say I'm yet positive how all this happened, nor whether that spot was in the planchet when it was cut from the strip or not. I don't really expect copper to leach in copper color, unless it were liquid in the crucible when it happened.

When one opens their eyes to the unusual, the unusual becomes commonplace ;)

    Example,

Before I bought a RV a few years back I never really noticed them on the highways and back roads. Once I did I started seeing them everywhere. Its all about perception. Once your eyes are opened to something the brain stops disregarding it.

Yeah, I know. I remember when I bought a Toyota Solar back in 2002, I'd never even seen one before. Then all of a sudden, they were everywhere. That's what I am hoping for with VAM hunting. None of the dealers around here seem to care one bit about them. I mean, I bought that NGC attributed 1922 Peace Dollar VAM-2E2 yesterday for next to nothing.

The fact that the overwhelming majority of VAMmers are also active participants in online communities tends to inflate the perception of their numbers. I wouldn't mind owning a 2E2, but like most VAMmers I don't have the luxury of buying every single Morgan/Peace I might want, when it shows up. Therefore, it's not a priority to me, especially when my attention is being diverted by the other five or six thousand of them. :)

Relative to population, all but a few VAMs are in very little demand.

Ebay. I only search using keywords. Morgan + fragment or error, planchet, crack/s, lamination, strike thru through threw, struck thru through threw.

I always keep it on the back of my mind there are bad spellers out there and ebay is not an exception to the rule.

Every error I have, except the 3M sanding disc, and an AU58 partial collar Morgan were bought from Ebay.

Once you start looking you will notice more and more although some still dont show up on google searches as having similar errors in existence.

Tiny blue fiber a found using a 60x loupe. The coin is peppered with wood fragments too.
