I just thought it looked too rough in the field and on the cheek to be anything better than 61 or 62. I bought a 61 Morgan back in the days before you could see pictures of everything, and it reminded me of this coin. I got rid of it as quickly as I could.

I sure hope you're never grading my coins if I send them in! LOL Half of my 64's aren't this nice and none of my 63's are so they must be AU 58's.

Several years ago, I attended a convention at which PCGS had a grading contest. Each participant graded a box of 20 PCGS-graded coins, and his/her grades were compared with those of the PCGS graders. I didn't do very well, as only a few of my grades agreed with theirs. Mine were more conservative in about 15/20 cases! Good thing I don't work for PCGS, right?

I agree, but in the end its the coin not the slab so as long as everyone is happy with what they got! I really enjoy it regardless of the grade. I'm sure you have a good eye for what you enjoy as well!

I find when you see a coin with that much detail on a New Orleans mint coin and the grade is say a MS62 :) Usually there will be a LOT of surface hash in the fields and cheek and there will be at least one good hit … rim or surface.
Definitely not a PL because stars and lettering need to be frosted too.
Nice New Orleans Minted coin though I like it
