The cheek and eyebrow area has me at 63. Although I could see it either getting a 63+ if it didn't get PL or be at 63 PL if it did.
is it in a GSA slab? Don't see the black tabs on the reverse you'd normally see but not sure those are always there. Love the GSA CC's but unfortunately so does everyone it seems, tough to find good deals on them ever. Have 81-84, going to take me about 2 years to fill the rest (if ever for the 79). I have it at a 65, very nice coin
Well it is not in a GSA holder which is typically how I take my CC Morgans. But when I saw this one and it was in the holder generation that I have found very sexy lately and the grade listed on it, I HAD to have it. PCGS Gen 2.1 MS-63. In hand the "chatter" on the cheek is about 90% frost breaks that are really shiny. The very highest points of the obverse all have that frost break, almost like it wasn't fully struck out. The fields are pretty clean as well. I think the grader's were having a really bad day or brand new to the job when this one came through.
perfect coin to buy in person, nice grab. if that was online and I saw the 63 and the cheek I would have assumed more than just frost breaks.
Yeah, she is a very frosty coin. It's almost as if it was dipped in liquid nitrogen and just pulled out. I really love the look of it. Had it not been in a slab, I could get the lighting to show off the surface quality much better.
For reference, here is a well toned example, that is pretty explicit as to where the frost was disturbed. https://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-dol...-1436-cdn-505-whsle-bid-for-problem-free-ngc- JT's CC above shows many less breaks, and in my opinion a much more gradable image.
Here is an image that greatly illustrates the frost break at the highest points of the coin. You can see the bright white highlights on the cotton bolls, leaves, high points in the hair, ear, devices and Liberty's cheek and neck. You can also see the small dings on her cheek as well as a hit right above the eye.
