I finally got this baby in today. Been waiting for her to arrive before I send in a submission to CAC. The package was a day late but thankfully not a dollar short. LOL
MS65 Check it Book it Bet it Obviously older NGC, so i guess it could be a 64 under graded Very Nice!
I love these older NGC coins. The toning is just so attractive to me. They are becoming a problem though. They are like rabbits, you seem to end up with more than you remember buying. LOL
Yeah definitely in the same boat with you there. Even aside from the rim toning which I like they have this unique color to them inside the rim toning sometimes that I can't describe but I like. The 98 I sent you is exactly the unique look these make that I love. I think this one is in a 64 holder
I'll say 65. There is a bit of chatter on the cheek and left obverse field, but consistent with what I see being called 65. Attractive toning also makes it a little less generic than a blast-white 81-S in 65 is.
It is definitely a 65 at minimum. Good strike, and nice surfaces. I love the toning. Knocking on the door of 65 plus. In an NGC newer slab, I would expect a star for eye appeal and toning. Green bean for sure. My type of coin!!!! I sold an 81s 65 +* much like that one for $725 on my sell-off of toners. If it graded at 64, then NGC blew it.
I'm not sure this one gets the star and it has nothing to do with deserving it and everything to do with the types of coins NGC stars. You just don't see too many with, even beautiful, rim toning get the star. They like rainbow crescent toning, or any rainbow toning even if weird patterns like this one which is in my collection, it's very nice in hand but I would much prefer JT's coin even in a non-star holder:
This kind of toning on the '81-S above is one of my favorites. The best part is you can find them pretty easily without spending a fortune on them. The coin above I ended up being the only bidder on, so I got it for what I would consider to be a bargain. Also, the cheek in the images above looks a lot worse in the photos, in hand it looks very clean. What looks like hits is only very small frost breaks that are very reflective. I'm very happy with it and I'm pretty confident it will get a green bean. I'll reveal the grade later this evening.
Yeah, from a technical standpoint you probably *shouldn't* really like the toning, but I for one can't help it.
I always struggle with this. I'll have a beautiful Morgan in hand and the images end up looking like a loser in a knife fight.
