MS-66. I don’t collect Morgan’s or slabbed coins so I’ll be interested to see how I do. Really nice coin.
Holy smokes that thing is beautiful. I’m going 67PL. Beautiful surfaces, nice strike, minimal abrasions, clean portrait, great luster.
I went 65PL. There are some marks on her cheek, and I see quite a few marks in the fields especially reverse. I think it fully makes PL.
65 PL. I would be completely shocked if this coin was not PL. Great reflectivity and depth. Super great fields. A bit chattery on the obverse for more than 65, but any other date, except for 80s, and 81s would be a 66.
I forgot about the 80-S handicap but sure is a pretty coin. Is the 1879-S not also included in the grading bias? Those seem to come really nice too.
Yes, 79s is also in that bias, grading wise. Those 3 dates were well struck, and many really beautiful examples exist in large quantities. High grades are common with those 3 dates.
Small White Anacs holder? I voted 65 PL....photos appear to show the PL qualities....a few marks at the bottom of the cheek, below the S of "Pluribus", and scattered around the reverse limit it to 65
Fantastic how well this series was struck, but yeah, they'll scrutinize the heck out of her for it. I'm at MS65PL.
I'm at 65 PL 80 S one of my favorite Morgan and a date depending on when it was graded. As 80 S got graded on a curve.....80 s hammered coins.
I would agree with you, if it were any other date. As you know, TPGs are brutal on that date. Figure on that date, or 81s, 65= 66 from any other date.
65 is the right grade. Honestly, I have no idea why they didn't give this coin the PL. Realistically, they were quite liberal with the prooflike..... I've had several soapbar PL's that didn't cross to NGC. This coin looks fully there.
