It's time to play GTG again..... this time a 1880 S Morgan $ Cell phone images .......so let hear the numbers BTW this is a coin I was watching and couldn't decide if I should pull the trigger . Well that said it's even better in hand then I believed it was going to be.
Ok I believe I got the Vam solved Vam -20 Dash under 8 double date S/S R-4 coin see my images @SuperDave @heavycam.monstervam @Cascade .
After some research I have to ask the vamers here have you ever seen a RPM S on this vam like this one? It's very different to my eyes,
Its either v20 or v30. I'm thinking maybe v30. Its all about matching the date doubling. They are VERY similar. Go to the v52 page as the obverse of 30 and 52 is the same and compare your coins date doubling against the pic on v52 page. If the date doubling matches v52 exactly then your coin is v30. If not its v20 Confused yet?
Yes as it has the die chip on the right wing that makes it the 20? Or not?OK got it the 20 and 30 share reverses a and comparing the two dates it's a 20
I believe you've got the reverse right, but without archive images of the date for V20 we're kind of speculating here. I'm leaning towards V30, myself, because I can't see any of what should be strong doubling on the lower left of the 0 from V20, and the 1 and 0 look just like the VAMworld images of the V30.
That's the trouble with less "interesting" varieties like this - there just isn't enough information out there for reliable attribution. And it's far too much work, time-consuming work, for any one person to step up and accumulate all the photographic evidence necessary for varieties like these. Even if it could be supposed that a steady stream of known examples could be provided.
