Wow. I mean, nice coin, but I think 45 is overstating it. I was somewhat tempted to say 40, but I couldn’t talk myself into it. Is there some strike weaknesses or something that isn’t coming through in the images? The vote was weird, too: nearly even split between 30 and 35, but with a slight edge for 40. Nobody said 45. Odd.
I had it pegged at a solid 35 but was hoping for a 40 when I submitted it. All that I can think of is that they may have pushed the grade for the its obvious collector appeal. I got hurt on a few coins in this submission, so this coin makes up for those.
I was hoping they'd credit it with a 40, recognizing the fullness of the hair & clasp and separation of the denticles from the rim. The stars and feathers were obviously not well impressed, but the denticles tell the whole story about how much the coin really circulated. 45? They must see / know something I don't.
Have you ever known 3 people to be wrong at the same time? Just because 3 of them agreed to the wrong answer doesn't make them right.
Not intended to offend you, but you are arguing that your grade from pics, is more accurate than 3 paid professional grader's, from one of the most trusted TPGS, that reviewed the coin in hand? In the ever changing market, they set the grading standards, like it or not.
I'll give'm this much . . . it is definitely a higher grade coin than the only VF35 in the market at this time https://www.ebay.com/itm/143342914982
To be fair, NGC doesn't publish their standards. However, compare this so-called "XF-45" to the pictures on the PCGS photograde site: https://www.pcgs.com/photograde/#/Seated25/Grades You could also compare to the ANA grading guide, but that's not online (spoiler: this coin is nowhere near 45 according to that guide either) This coin has zero luster evident, and has a considerable amount of wear. Honestly, using Photograde as a guide, I'd actually say this coin is more accurately VF-30.
I admit to not knowing this type at all, and I agree that it should be VF, or maybe XF40 at best, but this non-standard grading is the new standard. How else would they get dealers, and others to keep submitting their coins again, and again hoping for better grades. More Money for them is the reason obviously.
