Well first off its a very rare mule variety a quarter clashed with a FEC. again with the rubs I'll call it an AU 58 . And once again top of the mark specimen with sweet eye appeal.
It's hard to say from the those pictures because I can't see the luster, which is probably there. Going by the sharpness of the devices only, I'd say au-58.
To be perfectly honest if all my collection had the look of either of the 2 that Larry posted and were AU 58 I be smiling like a Cheshire cat... I would take a collection of AU 58 any day....even over ms coins
I really like the look of it, very nice eye appeal. I'm in the minority, based on the images, I am guessing AU-55. I hope I am wrong.
ANACS may have been a little tough on the coin but they probably felt it needed a bit more luster to get to AU. After ten years of searching, this one made me happy and ended my search.
I could barely see any wear if any, and was thinking a “market grade” of 62. I’m surprised it has stayed in that holder so long.
I was thinking AU 55 before seeing the reveal. If the luster isn't strong (like you mentioned), that might be the reason for lowering the grade (although I'm not certain it should fall farther down than AU 50).
