I recently picked up this large cent at my LCS. The color in hand is very similar to the photos. 1856 N-13 Die state C, R-2.
Only the obverse @ 8 o'clock and the reverse @ 10 o'clock keep it from AU-50, so I'd go with ToughCOINS XF-45
I am sending it and some others to PCGS, right now I am just getting an estimate on what it may grade. I will post the results when they come back.
I'll have to agree with most here but will call it au53.. would be higher but those "mashed" denticals almost make me think it's ED.. they called my 57 with the same issue "genuine" surface damage lol
