Hi, If you saw my post in the ancients section, you will know there is an auction that I wanted to attend coming up. This coin is in it: Now I would definitely bid on it if it can grade maybe AU-58 or MS? I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Peter Z
That would be a coin I'd need to see in-hand and check the luster on before deciding to bid. The details look like a solid 55 to me and I agree, nice coin with some cool clashing. The traces of greenery are notable as well, particularly the spot on the top arrow shaft. If I were bidding on it that would affect my maximum.
I really like it, except for the nicks - hits on the face, nose, chin, etc. I see some wear on eagles wings. I'd say XF-45 to AU-50. I spent about an hour trying to determine the Overton number, but I am stumped. The positioning of the 1-8-2-7 don't match the 49 varieties I looked at. Also the tilted 0 in 50 C. is slightly off to any of the 49 varieties. The green stuff bothers me a little also. But if you get it at say a dealer wholesale price, it's probably a great deal. Agreed, that coin at XF money would be solid. It's when coins like that with some of the minor issues mentioned venture into AU $ territory that I lose interest.
If I had to guess I'd say O-131 but it doesn't give me that "nailed it" feeling at all. Maybe an expert will chime in.
