I'll go with staple scratch. Is the coin genuine? Seems porous.

I could see that if it were crawling up on the T, also, but it's not, it cuts off at the T.

Well, since you didn't state that the first correct answer is the winner, I'll say that it is a strikethrough.......probably thread.

But it crawls up all 3 of the leaves and it look to me like it ends at the T.

I can see a little cut into the T, now; and, there's a third, smaller, irregular cut in the field. So, OK, struck through thread, wire, whatever; now that's a possibility.

    I stay with struck thru.

There is no evidence of the material (metal) being raise as a staple or other scratch would show.

You mean a scratch on the die, we meant a scratch on the coin (e.g., "PMD").

I can see displaced metal on the "T", seems to be a scratch, probably caused by a staple.

Metal boring worms, rare cousins of the wood boring worms.

I'd go with some thin piece of wire

I wish you would have posted a GTC #1 Marcus1959! Unfortunately, Doug's rules say only numismatic stuff so I guess "worms" does not qualify for a contest.

no I don't mean "You mean a scratch on the die," I meant a struck thru.

That is, something came between the die and the planchet, causing part of the die's details to not be struck

If it was Pmd then the excess metal would be raised on the coin.

    Gotta be struck thru.
