We're both right - the D was part of the mint set, and the S came with the proof set.

Are you writing about JFK half dollars? If so, only the S-mint Bicentennial pieces were issued as 40% and these were both PR and MS.

Yeah, I believe there have been cases of those popping up from time to time....so I'd definitely check.

If I had to guess, I'd say your lot has a couple 40%, maybe a silver quarter and maybe a silver dime. Looks like a coin in the bottom left might be silver, too. Kinda looks like a lot that was seeded with some silver (on the top and in the front, but always out of focus) to make it look like there's lots of good stuff in there..lol hope it has lots of good stuff for you though!

The original photo shows a group of 15 IHCs, 10 Buffs and two Mercs. The retail value is likely about 50 cents to a dollar for each IHC, a dollar or less for each Buff and $2 for each Merc based upon current silver spot. This is, of course, assuming none of the coins is a key date, which is a very safe assumption. Overall, this would have a retail value of about $29 at the most and $16 at the least.

1971-D and 1977-D Struck On 40% Silver Clad
A few of the 40% silver clad planchets used from 1965 to 1970 slipped into regular production lines at the Denver mint in 1971 and 1977

WHAT? This guy says the whole first lot might be worth 16 dollars? Each 1909 indian is worth more than taht in G-4 condition, and it looks like all the indians were in holders.

Noone mentioned the indian stuff which is also silver and there are a few of those too......the square coins and the fan shaped ones are colonial annas.

Yes, and these are rare, rare, rare off-metal errors. There is precious little to be gained to try to incorporate rare events into the discussion of common coins.

Marbury, I have a 2012 price guide on hand. Just ask about any one of the coins and I will give you a price (give or take a few bucks)

None of the IHCs in the first image is listed as a 1909, are they? Yes, the entire lot is worth around $16 to $29 retail. These are common coins with some appearing to have post-mint damage. The "holders" are simply 2x2 cardboard holders that are bought at $2 for 100-holders at a coin store.

Rare yes. But it is possible. That is what we all look for THE RARE.

Look again Tom, I saw at least two if not three 1909s

Will just have to wait until this group arrive and other lots containing US coins also arriving this coming week. Digital scans will probably quiet debate more than encourage it as definate answers are sure to follow.

Good answer, I am tired of speculating.

Where are you seeing these? From left-to-right, top-to-bottom the 2x2 cardboard holders are labeled as follows-

    1900; 1901; 1902; 19??; 1904
    1902; 1906; 1907; 1904
    1907; 1905; 1906
    1905; 1903

Where do you see the 1909 IHCs?

Yeah, I didn't see any better dates, but you never can tell. I once bought a VG 1869 IHC at a flea market in a 2x2 labeled 1864...for $1.

probably best to reserve judgement until we have coins in hand...but I didn't think all those Indian Annas were silver, though...at least the ones I've seen on this side of the pond...

Hey, Tom is knocking your buffalos artist.....

No, I don't think he was knocking them. Absent of specific date/mm info, that's the going rate for buffs in this condition. We'll just have to wait and see! (And hope for the best...although if this auction co has anyone working for them like me, any keys would have been picked out and listed separately...)
