I also saw the coins, nice lot. I usually don't mess with them either unless they are very large images or single photos.
Maybe I can mention that all the coins I have listed in this post are outside my own collecting area, and so will be looking for new homes. If you are interested in any or all, please PM me.
How about this one being Eudoxia? For these later coins the only book I have is a cheap price guide by Richard Plant but it seems to fit.
I can't make out the last letter in the mintmark, but it is an Aelia Flaccilla IMHO. Something like: Constantinople RIC 55,E Aelia Flaccilla AE 21mm. AEL FLAC-CILLA AVG, diademed & draped bust right / SALVS REI-PVBLICAE, Victory seated right, inscribing Chi-Rho onto shield; mintmark CONЄ. http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/aelia_flaccilla/_constantinople_RIC_055,E.jpg
On a second look see, I suppose it could be Eudoxia, so someone with more knowledge than me will have to weigh in. RIC 101 Aelia Eudoxia AE 18mm. Constantinople mint. AEL EVDO-XIA AVG, diademed draped bust right being crowned by manus Dei / SALVS REIPVBLICAE, Victory seated right, supporting shield on column inscribed with chi-rho; mintmark CONSA. LRBC 2213. http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/eudoxia/RIC_0101.1.jpg
Thanks for both these - I had got as far as looking at Wildwinds myself (I am learning!). My coin is only about 13.5mm across if that helps. I could certainly read the start of the inscription as AELFL, so that is probably right.
Wildwinds is one of the first places I look. If you are not familiar, you can ctrl/F which will give you a search function on the page. In this case I searched for Victory and then looked at the possibilities.
How about this one being Delmatius? I had been looking for a legend starting FIDEL, which was what I thought it read, but FLDELMA makes more sense. Only problem is I can't tie down the mint to match - seems to be the top of a P or a D with possibly a T after that? easures about 15mm as it stands.
looks like Rome mint Possibly: Rome RIC 395, Q Delmatius, Caesar AE 14mm. FL DELMA-TIVS NOB C, laureate & cuirassed bust right / GLOR-IA EXERC-ITVS, two soldiers, with shields & spears, standing facing each other, one standard between them; mintmark R-star-Q. I believe I can see R star in the mintmark
According to Helvetica's, it can only be R start S or R star Q if indeed it is Delmatius and if indeed it is Rome mint. BTW, Helvetica's list are the second places I go to help ID later Imperial coins: http://www.catbikes.ch/coinstuff/coins-ric.htm
I am not sure it is going to be Rome, but you may be right. The picture that goes with the Rome mint on Wildwinds is a far more mature individual than on the coin I have. http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/bigp...rome_RIC_395.jpg&ruler=./ric/delmatius/i.html
This should be the FIRST place you go! For the areas it covers, it's even easier to use than a hardcopy of RIC.
This one looks to be a better fit in both portrait and mint - Lyons: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/delmatius/_lyons_RIC_272.jpg
You have the coin in hand. I will defer to you on the mintmark even though that looks like a star on the right hand side.
I see a very similar engraving style between your sample and the Lyons mint sample... . Although Bing bow::bow::bow::bow is great at this, I (humbly) suggest that he may be wrong this time... Edit: May have found something you would want to take a look at.... it would fit this and there are none, bar a variety, on Wildwinds! http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/delmatius/_lyons_RIC_VII_288v.txt
Good to have a well-natured debate! Any reason why you prefer the RIC 288v to the RIC 272 Windchild? The 272 looks a better stylistic fit to me... BTW the Wildwinds site briefly had me over excited on prices for this and the Flaccilla. A quick check against sale prices on Ebay brought me back down to earth!
