I have wanted a decent griffin for some time and finally got one! Gallienus, AE antoninianus, Rome mint, sole reign. O: GALLIENVS AVG, radiate head right Rx: APOLLINI CONS AVG (sic) Griffin walking left. Officina letter Delta in ex. RIC 165 Here is another Griffin (Pic I took while in Rome at Diocletians Baths): Post your Griffins!!! (ancient coins, Busts, Friezes, modern coins,...etc) Lets see some griffins!!!

This Greek diobol is thick and tiny. Lincoln cent for scale. Ionia, Teos. 375 (or 320?) - 294 BC. 1.0g 9.5mm diobol Obv: Griffin standing right Rev: ΔΙΟΥΧΗ[Σ] (Dioches, magistrate); Chelys (a musical instrument) Kinns 96 The magistrate's name is inscribed on the reverse with letters not much bigger than the letters in "LIBERTY" on the cent. The cent was sculpted in plaster at large size and mechanically reduced with a lathe. The diobol was apparently cut freehand without even a magnifying glass.
I have a few. I will share a small selection from my Papius collection L Papius Denarius Serratus Obv:– Head of Juno Sospita right, wearing goat skin tied under chin. Rev:– Gryphon running right; in ex., L. PAPI.; Minted in Rome from . B.C. 79. Reference(s) – RSC Papia 1. RRC 384/1. RCTV 311.
LOL, IMHO one can never be done with Gallienus....or GRIFFINS!!! I know it ain't ancient but really like that 1860 Kreutzer! @ Maridvnvm those Teos & L Papius Denarius Serratus Griffins rock!
