I’ve been in cool but not unbearable Texas for 2 weeks. Was supposed to fly back to Maine tomorrow. We’re getting a blizzard tomorrow so Friday. And Saturday night is supposed to be -26
On the note of cac stickers. The tpgs straight grade a fair amount of duds too. I see a lot of cleaned and otherwise problem coins that get passed as market acceptable. Cac weeds out a lot of these overgraded and otherwise b grade coins and stickers a lot of a to a+ grade pq coins. Are they infallible no. Do they make mistakes and sticker coins I don’t like or find unappealing yes. To they not sticker coins that I feel should go and are quality yes. But for the most part cac coins are higher end for the grade eye appealing and problem free. Which is why they sell for a premium and quickly as they should as premium coins always usually do. If you see 2 identically graded coins that one is nicer than the other most advanced collectors of will buy the better even if it’s slightly more regardless of the sticker
I like your style. You “look” at the stickers but you don’t “see” the value that others see in the stickers. The value is only in the coin not any additional stickers it might have. I respect that. Sincerely Reed.
I’ve handled bought sold and submitted to pcgs and ngc quite a lot of coins and looked at thousands more. And there’s a lot of crap out there both raw and in holders. A second opinion is good especially when buying from photos case in point I bought a nicely toned 84-s Morgan in au from a major auction company. Straight grade pcgs 55. I got it the coin was cleaned years ago hairlined and retoned though naturally. I never would have touched it if I’d seen it in person. I sold it cheap and made very little and was happy to see it go. Just one of many examples
One of the things people sometimes forget is their initial intention was to be geared more towards the higher end of the market where the more opinions the better. Collector demand and submissions is really what drove it's emergence even in the lower end of the market
Come on Kurt we got a fresh one hear. He lead off by calling the new member ignorant. I followed with a witty skedaddle then. I’m sure another insult is to follow. Should I pull out rule #2 yet or let it go on?
Lehigh is the Mac Daddy specialist in semi-modern toners, particularly nickels, if memory serves. We lock horns occasionally, mostly in good fun, but he's no newb.
When did I insult you? Calling you ignorant is a statement of fact, and you have 800 posts, you aren't a new member. However, calling someone Buck Wheat is certainly an insult and I think it may be cultural appropriation as well.
