Hi i have dilemma, i got new coin for my collection greek, on one side there is Nika head on other owl standing on amphora but instead of olive wreath there is rim made from triangles, this is my first coin with this and i am in doubt is it real? Bronze, weight is 10.9gr, and diameter is 29mm.
It appears to be a base metal copy of a "New Style" Athenian "owl" tetradrachm, which should be a silver coin. However, it is difficult for me to determine what exactly your item is, how old it is, and what purpose it was made for. I think it is old, but probably not ancient. Maybe a 100 year old copy. Others will have more information for you.
The chevron border is a modification of a known fake. I don't know the purpose of the addition nor do I know if the decorative border was added before or after the coin was cast. Collage made from this fakes listing on Forum Ancient Coins + the OP pictures:
Thank you very much, i was suspicious, every week i have people coming to museum and bringing me modern and antic coins, they dont sell them they just give them away, but some of them, like this one are fakes unfortunately.
Doesn't type English like a Londoner. Our author's English is good enough, but not native. I was just curious.
