This coin is in rough shape. I will show it anyway, as it is rare and unusual. Sicily, Selinos. circa 450-440 B.C. Cast AE quincunia(?) 21 mm, 9.7g. Obv: Facing gorgoneion Rev: Krater; five pellets around. Calciati CNS 1 CNG, e-auction 285, August 2012, lot 13 (unsold) Calciati placed it as #1 because he believes it to be the earliest bronze coin of Selinos. Only a few examples are known; the finest I've been able to find was sold by NAC in 2001.
I received this book and I am really enjoying it. The essays and descriptions of each piece really help to understand and appreciate them. The Berlin Painter was really ahead of his time in illustrating emotions and dynamic action. Greek vase books I like are "The Greek Vase Art of the Storyteller" and "Athenian Vase Construction". John
