Grease filled ?

Lol you guys didn't scare me away. School just started again, and I have 3 kids so ive been a little busy. I appreciate everyone's input! Well, judging by the "we" I should have known that it was caused by a counting wheel. Yes, I've been collecting coins for about 7 years, but I just started learning about errors. I do a lot of research when I can, but it helps to hear what the experts have to say. Everyone learns differently, I am not offended one bit. In fact, it's the complete opposite, I truely appreciate everyone taking their time to help me. You are all amazing, and I wish nothing but good luck in your coin hunting!

I found some photos of counting wheel damage on a Liberty nickel. Unfortunately, in this case, the damage only scraped the tops of some of the letters. On the OP's coin the damage is deep into the letters closer to what is seen on other parts of the nickel.

 

The administrators of the forum are very tired of comments that only reflect a small portion of our members who feel that this is a comedy forum. Surprise!, it isn't and once you put such comments on the forum, you cause work for those who have to clean up and often misunderstandings among the newcomers. Points add up folks. We mean it. I am glad that you didn't take offense, but what members often forget is that we can not verify the personal info that is given on the net, so You could be very different from your profile. I agree but at the same time, many folks don't have images that will help. It's great when they do. It all takes time that some just don't have for every thread.

 

research research research. Totally agree to the homework. The confusion on if and what ...coin identification clarification to the Yoda Coin Gurus (said with hands on hip admiration) is many claim to be and contrasting opinions. Since I have started.. coins have been "officially" reclassified. Does this depend on the individual or coin?

To one not as knowledgeable in cross mutant identification... Here are some pix of coins that could fall into more then one opinion or category. Hard to research.
Relying on pictures for the experts of vast coinage brain is difficult for 100% accuracy and even if us newbies don't like the answer .. taking the time to answer is immensely appreciated ..

The coin posted is a 1946 that display more then one identity issue
1. There is a faint D under the date but lower for a 46 mint. Visually noticeably in an angle
2. Strike variables that display both machine doubling and true double die
3. After WE .. There are two (letters?) and not from damage. Sorry about needing to take my word. In hand wld make cents why
4. LIBERTY is not aligned
5. IN GOD WE.. The N touches the rim and only letter different size

Is it multiple or one (planchet error). Chris... You can give me homework anytime lol
