I know for a fact that 1916D's exist in rolls (a reliable person saw one). Any pics on this yet?

 

These rolls do exist - in fact I saw one just recently that you could very clearly see the 1916 on one end of the roll and one with a "D" mintmark on the other side of the roll. I bought that along with the elusive 09 S VDB roll as well. :whistle:

 

A roll of 16 d's could technically exist. Now think folks. All it would take is a rich man with some money to burn and then bought up every 16 d that he saw, many would have to be cracked slabs but it technically can be done..... and $35K later...

 

I kinda of chuckled when I read this post because, there is an older gentleman that I befriended in my local coin club that said over his lifetime, he put together 3 full rolls of 16d's. I would say that he is in his early 60's and is one of the senior guys in the club. No reason to doubt him, but have no proof either other than his word. He said that he sold two of them many years ago and just recently, within the past year or so, sold his last roll. I can't remember who bought the rolls (might have been Silver Town), but I do remember that it was a larger company. He did say that the last roll brought him over 100k. He wasn't bragging, but the topic was brought up during a local auction where one was being auctioned off and I told him that I needed that one coin to complete my Mercury set. No one in his family collects coins, so he is slowly selling off his coins and putting the money away for his grandkids. I am supposed to provide him a list of everything I am looking for and he said he will try to help me. Take the story for what it is - but obviously, it could happen.

 

Grandpas 1993 Double Eagle

Better News? I just found the key to my grandpa "Izzy's" safe box and found a 1933 double eagle.

Unfortunately there's no mint mark on this apparently uncirculated coin so I assume it's just an old bullion coin worth about $900 on ebay. I might take it by my local secret service field office just to make sure it is real gold. Grandpa was a saint but I plan on dumping his coin ASAP, then hire a top-shelf hooker for the night!
