Back around 1969, times were tough, and Grandpa gave us a couple of big jugs of mostly cents, i sorted them and it was around $200 after i picked out the ones I liked!

There were a lot of foreign coins in there that I've not really researched much, but now looking at them I thought it would be fun to share!

Here's the jars I've kept them in since.

I think a few moderns were dropped in the jars over the years, but mostly 1900 to 1950!

Yep! There was a really nice 1895 cent that I found back then in the jugs, but I can't remember where I put it!

Here's a fun one I pulled out of that lot though! IMG_20231026_230420.jpg IMG_20231026_230351.jpg

Nice find! Do you realize that the jar on the left is old? I have one like it. It's a half pint milk jar if I'm not mistaken. I found one at an old site that was an old schoolhouse that closed in 1905 supposedly.

I found that half pint milk jug in an old dump near a creek where we used to visit near Clear Lake in Chelsea, MI, probably 1970! I used to collect EVERYTHING as a kid!!

Cool. Know anything about old buttons? Like Brass or Silver? I have one I can't ID.
I used to Metal Detect around old cellar holes and found a lot of coins, buttons and other relics. Some nice bottle glass (1800's), but always broken.

Nope, never found any of those although I was an avid metal detector back in the 70s, but those old machines just seemed to find bottle caps or gum wrappers!

Thought I found a tombac here, but it's just got a little toning! IMG_20231026_235424.jpg IMG_20231026_235400.jpg

The glass on the right in this pic actually looks more like a glass insulator as opposed to a jar.

I have to disagree. See how it's flat bottomed not Fat bottomed? lol.gif

There are lots of flat bottomed glass insulators. The picture doesn't show it definitively, but it does look like one. There's no threads on the top. and the ribbed bulge around the middle both give the appearance of an insulator.

    Okay, I'll give you a maybe. lol.gif
I'm no expert though. I was a bad kid. I used to live next to the tracks and would shoot them with my BB gun. wink.png

Can you read the Morris Code on the reverse where the denticles usually are?

It does look a little odd, but it's an old Ball canning jar!

This jar used a "bail," not threads!
