Grand Canyon of Strike Throughs

Double Die I know just enough to be dangerous

Here is a 1961 Jefferson found in a mint set with a gaping wound on the reverse. It's not a really well struck coin and at first I thought it took a big hit, but upon looking at it closer, I think it's a huge strike through. It's ragged with no straight edges to indicate another coin strike and inside the wound it is smooth and highly polished looking. There's also some minor doubling top and bottom of Monticello, but not sure if MD or not?

    Strike through or hit?

does not look like an example of a struck thru coin I would say hit, but no expert, just yet

That's not the Grand Canyon, but it's definitely a strike thru.

If it was hit you would see the displaced metal around the area, looks struck through to me

Tough call for me. I tend to say it's a strikethrough.
