We are not going to allow another cent on dime argument to spoil another thread. Redwin had a correlation of his first post to the OP question. However, any comments on his pricing or his offers should be kept to himself ( hear it Redwin??) , and comments on a person's character or actions without darn good proof, is a violation ( hear it ~ multiple posters). Redwin, we all know you are proud of your coin, that is fine, but there is no need for the "pony show" each time. Link your posts from now on to a previous listing. An asking price is not considered in most people's mind to be the value of the object, until someone actually buys it. IMO, your asking price is not yet a "value".

The rules say you can trash a coin, but not the person. Let's all remember that.

Point well taken, and I appreciate the advice. Just out of curiosity, would a MS/PF 66-70 grade make the price of the OP's coin increase exponentially? That's not sarcasm but an actual question!! :thumb:

I have a PWBIMGC graded 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar in MS80. It's the hallmark of my Chinese Counterfeit collection.

Acugrade, HCGS, SGS and many others are considered raw as far as I'm concerned.

For the record, Acugrade was the first to "slab" a coin, but ANACS has been grading coins with technical grades since 1979.

    Numismedia doesn't have any pricing history on the coin in question above MS67, and I don't have access to the PCGS guides. However, the 1963-P is listed as MS65 - $11.25, MS66 - $$20.00 & MS67 - $71.25. If you take a look at the values for a 1963-D, you can see what I mean. Numismedia lists MS65 - $11.25, MS66 - $16.25, MS67 - $96.25 & MS68 - $3130.00.

There are many other similar instances where there is a huge jump in values for circulation strikes because it is so darned hard to find them in the higher grades. There are collectors who make it a habit of buying the grade just before the big jump in price because they can get a pretty nice coin for a whole lot less money.

PCGS price guide doesn't list a 68, but the 67 has a value of $4500.

I agree with those that say to treat coins in these holders as raw. I don't agree with those that will not even look at the coin because of the holder. You just never know what you might find.

How are those rated....I would like to see evidence that backs this up.

Edited post after reading Jim's post. He is correct and I do not want to play a part in hijacking a good thread.

The evidence you want is anecdotal. I have the same belief as Kirkuleez on that ranking. I came to that belief by reading this forum. If you want hard facts, you may have to consult Google or Bing.

Well then i guess they are opinionated ratings, so if we are giving out anecdotal standings, i'll say:

    NGC
    PCGS
    ICG
    ANACS

    You guesses right. Opinions.
I think that the consensus opinion here on CT is #1, PCGS; #2, NGC; #3, ANACS; #4, ICG.

I agree with you I picked up 40 2005 proof American Bison nickels for $25 a few years ago because someone had them in some self graded slabs. I'll still look at the coins inside.

According to the CDN (Coin Dealers Newsletter), that has actual numbers to back up their claim. The order for grading companies are:
    PCGS
    NGC
    ANACS (Slabbed only)
    ICG
    PCI (Green or Gold Label)
    SEGS (without Negative comments)
    NCI
    INS

These are for sight unseen bids. I would post the percentages but I think that might be copyrighted. You can see the actual numbers anytime by buying a weekly greysheet.
