Is there a price guide for not gradable coin? I just wonder because some key date coins I saw still cost a pretty penny even though they are not gradable.
Thanks , I couldn't believe all the hairlines in both directions on the larger pics , definately been harshly cleaned . Rusty:thumb::bow:
eBay bidders never cease to amaze me. First of all, this coin is nowhere near a MS66... at best, I would put it as AU53. But that is based on the terrible pictures. Secondly, it is harshly cleaned and probably wouldn't even be graded by the major grading services (or it would at least be labeled as "details" or "authentic" or whatever) According to numismedia fair market value, which is what I use for a large portion of my buy-price estimates (taking a fixed percentage off), the fair market price for a legit AU53 is $1800... a cleaned price, in my opinion cuts this value in half, or maybe to 2/3 due to the rarity and interest. That puts the actual price that I would pay, as a collector, around $900 to $1200. This auction ended for $2,850. :desk: If I was buying this to resell it, I wouldn't have paid more than $750. But that is ME... someone else might think that the coin is awesome and shiny, and super rare, and worth more than the end price of this auction, and they need it for their book. To each their own, but the problems with this coin make ME shy away. The key here is the grading service. ANGS??? Who are they? What reputation do they have? Why should anyone trust their grading? I tell you, these fly-by-night slabbers are going to kill this market and hobby. After so many people get burned, the hobby will get a bad reputation. I am 100% supportive of making a profit. But this is contingent on the profit being from LEGITIMATE business practices. Not dishonesty, or misrepresentation, or manipulation. I think I'm done ranting, so thanks for listening. :headbang:
There's a link to look up all slabbing companies , but it was on my old computer , maybe someone else knows it . Also schlock outfits like ANGS are why we should stick to only the top graders and buy the coin not the slab . rzage
I registered just so I could say thanks to "physics-fan3.13" for the document on luster. Everything just fell into place. I followed the conversation you folks were having and man....very helpful document and again, thank you (I just got done REviewing 50+ coins in a whole new light ;-)
