You could probably get the pair for $10 if you were willing to hunt for them online, or compromise a bit on condition.</p><p><br /></p><p>The PCGS book isn't quite as comprehensive as its title might indicate, but it's good for background. Be sure to get the second edition if you do buy this one!</p><p><br /></p><p>Halperin's book is excellent for showing the high points and focal areas of all circulating US coins up through its date of publication (1990, IIRC). This is a really valuable resource to have if you're just starting out, and a good reference for unfamiliar series if you're already a numismatic veteran. It's online at <a href="http://coingrading.com/" target="_blank" class="externalLink ProxyLink" data-proxy-href="http://coingrading.com/" rel="nofollow">http://coingrading.com/</a> but the images are broken now, making it far less useful.
