grading and quality

I believe the grading page here under discussion or mine for that matter do have value in the new gradeless generation of the hobby but it is not in the words fine and friends. The value in those pages is pointing out what, why and how factors need to be considered when vetting a coin under consideration. A lot of it is vocabulary and might seem obvious to most people sophisticated enough to read Coin Talk but I have met some people who need a little guidance. For example it is good to mention that centering, strike, style, surface and a few other factors play a lager role in grading ancients than moderns where these are taken for granted (at least below MS levels) leaving only wear and the decision whether a coin is gradable or body bag material. I will bet there is at least one person here on CT that believes that any coin graded AU 5/5 5/5 will look exactly like others of that grade from the same issue. Robert's page was a start in the process of learning not so much how to grade but that the only grade that matters is the two choice one on his last page.
