It doesn't make 69 IMO; the diagonal scratch on the jaw and gouge near the point of the neck are enough to prevent that in my opinion. 68 - as I mentioned earlier - wouldn't be out of the question.
AMEN to that! MS-68 at best. And I have no words for an AU grade! I think the TPGS was trying to single out this coin as @Kirkuleez posted. In hindsight, I'll bet a plus or star would have done the same job ($$$$$$) that a point bump did. We need to thank one member here for "sticking-to-his-guns after realizing the coin was Uncirculated and not AU.
If I had the time, I bet I could find this coin having been sold before in a MS67 OR 68 PL holder... someone played the upgrade game and won.
There are defects on the neck, the cheek, the eyebrow, the field between the eye and the E, the date, a rub on the eagles breast, head and wings, you can call it toning, but there is a discoloration on the reverse rim from 7-8 o'clock. A beautiful coin but too many minuses to make it a 69. I am at 67+. To me, a 69 is almost perfect with just 1 or 2 tiny flaws keeping it from being a 70. IMO this coin is not even a 68.
Are you guessing about this statement or do you know it for a fact? I'm curious because that is some very thin and potentially unpleasant chapter 96 ice when a coin whose price guide number is intentionally manipulated to some 30 to 100, or more, times it's reasonable value. The photographs do not present a Morgan nicer than their Photograde 67 or 68's and I believe most looking would agree to that. For me, the questions are who, what, where, when and how along with disclosures of any and all potential conflicts within 6 degrees. Good thing for somebody I didn't get that hair cut somebody else "lucked into".
For any that looked at the pictures of it and haven't had the chance to see it on a huge display, check it out on something 80" or larger even if you have to go to a B&M electronics place.
Do you even know how to grade @Ordinary Fool? You're now telling people to go look at it at something like 500x
Can you read? I specifically instructed everyone that always does exactly what I say to see it in scratch and sniff braillevision. You do see that everyone agrees the grade number to be malarkey. I'm sure everyone but you is wrong and the pictures are simply too good. Probably some forced flash induced harshness or outdated digital kodachrome........something reasonably plausible like that.
So you don't know how to grade? Anyone that knows how to grade knows you don't do it on an 80 inch screen. Basically everyone also reserved the right to change their mind seeing something in hand and I know for a fact the majority of posters know that pictures make things look then they are as they are always greatly magnified. I also know you're the only one who thought it was AU, didnt notice videos on a page you supposedly looked at, and now are telling people to grade on 80 inch screens.....
The surfaces probably look terrible under an electron microscope, the coin clearly has environmental damage and has been tooled. I grade in the nanoscale or nothing, how else could you possibly make an informed decision?
My bad. That is the term I meant. You can pick out the spots were other Morgan's or other coins have. Made contact.
And that is when I make my exit. When all the "know It alls" start the pile on. It's my opinion. That's why i started with "I was thinking". Jesus People start quoting population numbers that don't mean squat because those numbers never include how many times a coin has been cracked out of its holder and sent in again and the fact that most of these inflated grades have been produced in the last 10 - 15 years. I have seen many many old holders that once held 65,65+, or 66 and after being sent in 5 to ten times get the grade they want. I don't care what any of you say. These companies are businesses when it comes down to it. The only way they stay relevant is to make the customer happy. Peace
Yes much better to be a "know it all" that just knows that all you have to do is send in a coin and you'll get the grade you want. Kind of funny about 3-4 of you (assuming you're different posters) have all started with this nonsense in the last 48 hours. Wonder what group decided to have this propaganda push. Anyone who thinks that grades are just handed out to make someone happy has lost all credibility speaking about the process
If there's a group that includes USAcoindealer and Ordinary Fool pushing an agenda, I would very much like to see the discussions at their meetings.
