Hello, I am new to grading IHCs in MS grades, and I am wondering what you guys think this one would grade. The coin may look scratched or doubled due to the flip it is in, but it is not. P.S, im glad to be part of the forum! Thanks all.
I am not an expert on this series at all. But the lettering seems to be off and the way the denticles change around the rim seems to be off. The style of the date numerals are wider. All these items look different than the 1863 example given in the red book Guide Book of Flying Eagle and Indian Head Cents. I will wait for others to chime in.
The edge outside of the denticles looks beveled. I don't collect IHC's, but this looks odd to me. ~ Chris
The fields look to be a bit dull. I would say MS-62 because of a lack of luster. Here is one graded MS-64 that I would say is high end for the grade.
Looks like a few small die cracks on the reverse. The coin looks cleaned to me. It has too much wear for that color.
Thanks everyone for your help. I have decided not to slab it for my graded typeset, glad I didn't spend $30 without needing to.
