My friends all i am saying is this! When people clean a coin it does look much better. ARE YOU GOING TO TELL THE KID WHAT YOU HAVE DONE OR THAT ITS BEEN CLEANED. AND ARE YOU GOING TO BUY THE COIN BACK IN 5 YEARS. ARE YOU GOING TO SAY NO! THAT COINS BEEN CLEANED? And not pay a fair price for the coin. And how much do you take off for a clean coin? How many times that i ve been on the blouse floor and here those words told to people on the floor just so the dealer can get a deal. How about this one i 'll give you, melt. We need to clean this up people! Slab all alltered coins Yes i have some that are cleaned and they are now in Anacs holders. Think of this, when you put $100,000 dollars in coins , you die and your loved ones go to sell them off and find that you got took! How will they feel about coins then?
Mr Paland , I do hope that firm you speak of, has a 85% or better buy back on those coins. AS for now, i now know no one that buys cleaned coins at a fair price. Even cleaned Key dates. I will check with say Slivertown and other dealers on Monday. Maybe PCGS will know where i can go for good buy backs on cleaned coins.
Fair enough. Everyone has an opinion. Who's judgemental here? I don't believe you know me now do you? You are correct. There is a company of well trained professionals that do this for a living. Perhaps this coin should have been sent there for preservation. I don't and I didn't. I gave an opinion. Can you latch on to that? Guess I stepped on your toes as it appears determining what's right for the hobby is exclusively your right. Did I specifically say that this person had no respect for the hobby? No, I stated an OPINION. Ethics is an OPINION as well. No I don't know this person any more than you know me does that sink in? Will it sink in? Can it sink in? Now you're just plain twisting my words and meaning. Nice job. Running for office? You have a very funny way of showing it you know? A nice, personal attack on me that did indeed give me an insight into your shortcomings. Mission accomplished there. You call me judgemental. Perhaps you should take a LOOOOONG look in the mirror. Seems it's totally okay for you to judge me all that you want. Here's the key word in this whole thread and really any thread. OPINION. It's about OPINIONS, OPINIONS, OPINIONS, OPINIONS, OPINIONS. I feel, for some reason, you don't like or respect mine. I'm good with that but rembember this next time you lash out. You don't know me and I don't know you. Having read your litany I can say at this point I have no real desire to get to know you. Seems it's fine for you to come in here and just lambaste me with a personal attack because you don't like my opinion. I guess that's fine in your book as long as you are the one doing the attacking. Happy Holidays! clembo
OH MY GOD!!!! That perfectly describes my collection!!!!! And I think that most of them aren't G-4... What should I do Paland? Kill myself?
We are getting kind of judgemental in this link. As for me, I will side with Clembo's points. But, then again, I am totally opinionated, judgemental and don't clean coins, since I screw them up.
Fair warning to all that escalation of personal attacks will not be tolerated. Anything further will cause this thread to be closed.
Thanks guys!! I don't think it will turn in the slab...this guy that dipped it for me really knows his stuff. -Paul
Not yet. I don't actually have the coin back yet. The guy who sent it in for me gave me a call to let me know the grade=P -Paul
I think one good lesson from this thread that people need to understand is that whether or not individuals agree with it or not, many coins are dipped and cleaned. Most flashy white Morgans have been dipped. Most of the high-end Morgan Dollar collectors prefer blast white coins to toned coins, even if they have been dipped. Most of the circulated Gobrecht Dollar Proofs have been artifically retoned to hide past cleaning. These impaired proofs are normally graded by PCGS and NGC and not bodybagged. Discussing the pros and cons of this practice makes for a great education, but the important thing to know is what actually happens out there, whether you agree with it or not.
Yep. Awesome job. That is seriously the best before and after photos I've ever seen. :thumb: Am I correct in guessing it was Russ who dipped and sent it in for you?
I'll go ahead and add my support here. If done properly I see no problem with it (that's a big if, but not one impossible to satisfy). I guarantee if you only ever posted the after picture and didn't tell anybody that you dipped it, almost nobody here would know that it was dipped or even suspect. As long as it was neutralized properly after it was dipped, what's the difference? Besides having a much improved appearance...
Without asking I'm almost sure I know who did the work on this. If I'm right the coin is not going to turn in the slab. There is a right way to do this. Doing it the wrong way is a problem. The hardest part is knowing the right coin that can be helped.
