At the 71st Street coin show in Indianapolis, I went up there as a dealer today, which makes the 5th time I've done it, but n ever have I seen a toner like this. It is a 1958-D dime, graded MS66 by NGC. The guy that sold it to me, another dealer, had me make an offer, so I offered him $12 ($1 back of the Greysheet for it), which, I hope, is quite fair in case the toning becomes terminal. Overall, it's a nice piece by my standards.
I'm glad you posted this. Two questions: What is the black stuff on the reverse? How does a TPG grade a coin that is heavily toned all over? Yours is not, but I've seen them, and obscured to the point the details aren't even clear, and see them come back in high grades. I generally stay away from heavily toned coins unless they've been graded. I don't know how they do it if all of the luster is gone.
