My replacement Silver Proof Set finally arrived and I shouldn't have been surprised, it's in worse condition than the first. The first set contained perfect coins, but as I said, the plastic case had a 1 1/2 inch long crack over the reverse of the Kennedy Half. The replacement set has a perfect case but again, this time on the Kennedy Obverse, to the lower-left of JFK's neck, on the polished area,is a very obvious deep scratch which can be seen without holding very close. The commemorative nickels are perfect, as is the dime. The cent has a tiny scratch also on the obverse. I am in a quandry if I should return it once again for an exchange or keep it as an example of the Mint's poor workmanship. Obviously, the proof sets are not inspected. I shutter if I ordered a gold eagle from the US Mint in proof. Are those also sent out without inspection? The US Mint used to produce flawless proof sets until the last 10 years.
