I know absolutely zero about paper money. Why is this special?

Very low #'s and it's a star replacement note
    It's like a first strike!

Is this just a cool note that's worth
    $5?

it's a cool note that's worth $5 to a normal citizen, but more to a collector of low serials. How much more is hard to say, but you can be sure it's worth more than $5 to a collector.

Ten years ago I sold a 2003 $5 note with five leading zeros in well worn condition for $25. Yours is in substantially better condition and is a star. So, you can try and extrapolate value based on this if you'd like.

Absolutely not! Very nice find. It's a low serial number, star/replacement, and is great condition.

@silentnviolent posted the print run. Not low but not high either.

Your note is definitely worth more than face value. My guess is somewhere between $30 and $50. If you have it graded and it gets a 65 or better I would say more than $50.

you should definitely learn. ESPECIALLY if your job has you handling cash all day. fancy SN's can bring a nice chunk of change for the right one.
