    There are some pretty tough-looking lions on coins but the Iran lion has a sword. There are other countries that depict lions with swords but I think this one is pretty cool.

    It gets even more subtle. :) You can find a tiny cat on every new Belgian coin ...

    About a year ago (1 June 2012), the Belgian Mint got a new director, Bernard Gillard. And the mint puts both the mintmark and the mintmaster's mark on each coin. Since Gillard loves cats - he has seven or so - , he chose what as his mark?

    LOOK AWAY CAT LOVERS.

    Two kitties in this one (well sort of) one was skinned and the other appears to have been cut in half.....

    Lysimachos, Silver drachm
    Obv:– Head of Herakles right clad in lion's head headdress.
    Rev:– BASILEWS LUSIMACOU, Zeus seated left on throne, eagle extended in right, long vertical scepter in left, forepart of lion over DI on left, K under throne
    Minted in Colophon mint from . B.C. 299 - 296.
    Ref:– Thompson 125, Müller -

    Restoring the types from the lifetime of Alexander the Great but minted in the name of Lysimachos.
