Not yet. They have a pretty big velvet rope to cross. Currently working on just a date set of the Capped Bust type. We'll see where it takes me next.
Messy - I love that 1831! Gorgeous! You're probably thinking it should be a 55? I personally like it at 53, and I suspect it was probably net graded down due to the unattractive dark streak across the reverse. They have a new "associate" membership that only requires 30. I'm at 26 right now, and plan on applying when I reach 30. I'm not entirely sure what the difference is between an associate and regular membership.
I agree with the AU53 grade on the 1827 for the same reason. I imagine that the associate membership has you sitting in the rusty metal folding chairs without cushions in the back of the room and eating at the kids' table.
I've got two Bust Half Nuts in my local coin club. One has about 430 varieties and the other ONLY has about 250. This part of the hobby can result in severe cash depletion but I get to see serious eye candy, at least up to when the pandemic canceled our meetings. A curious thing about most BHNs seems to be an eye ailment that prevents them even seeing any coin that is not a half dollar minted between 1795 and 1836. Don't even talk to them about reeded edge half dollars. (All said with a teasing loving fondness for our various oddments.)
I don't understand their disdain for reeded edge capped bust halves. I can understand cutting it off at the Seated series, but RE CBH are really just a continuation of the series!
