Gordian III and Tranquilina

    I can't find literature for exactly this type. Maybe somebody can help me?

    It's from Marcianopolis - these can be confusing to read because the city name is sprinkled all over the reverse. From 3 to 5 you have MAPKIANOΠO, then in the right field Λ / I / TΩ / N

    Yeap I know ;) but I can't find this type with Λ / I / TΩ / N.

    I'm on the fly and I don't have my references handy, but I don't think it's Gordian. I don't recognize the magistrate on the reverse as belonging to the time of Gordian, but I can't make out the obverse legend. Check coins of Philip and Otacilia or Severus and Julia maybe...

    My friend has a handy page giving magistrate names on this period. They come in handy on hard to read coins and telling Caracalla from Elagabalus.

    Do I see tooling around the letters on the reverse making some read differently?

    The obverse clearly reads Philip.
