bromac4, the thread was for posting good looking coins, had I been paying attention I would have realized that - which might have ruined my joke.

I thought it was for good lookers also and somehow got sidetracked by the discussion on the grades of the O Morgan.

The schooner looks good from what I can see from the pic the fields are almost flawless and the devives are well defined.

Yes the Orleans mint does have a history of soft strikes and overstrikes i.e. 1882 O over S and the 1900 O over CC but even taking that into account the breast feathers on the coin are well worn. Is there another standard for grading Orleans Morgans?

I am thinking about collecting a date set of Orleans Morgans becuase of all the history associated with this particular mint.

That new orleans dollar may very well be BU...can't tell from pics...as far as the flatness on the breast and hair locks, I've seen O mint coins that look exactly like that one in 64 holders. But it does have a "cleaned" look to it...again I can't be certain about the grade unless I hold it. I CAN say that this particular coin appears to have very little contact marks so if it's not cleaned and has no wear it's probably a good piece to have.

I understand your point of course - but that is Louis XV of France ;) The coin is a 1748-W Louis D'Or.

By the time I researched and realized my error, you had pointed it out. Knowledge without wisdom is folly.

Ahhhhh - but you did make an effort to research ;) This is how we all learn - by making mistakes. Best way there is !

My daddy always told me something as a young boy - if a man does not make a mistake now and then - it's because he's not doing anything !
