Thanks Mike! I just love those little gems! For some reason, those little guys seemed to have toned on the reverse side and not the obverse. Anyone else ever noticed that? Ive had a few of these sets and they all did the same. Oh baby! Its a gonna be a coming soon!!!
I like the the gradations between the colors. I think I see some blue in the lower neck region. This one is clad and has these colors. Nice.
Yes, you can see it really clearly around the mint mark area and around the neck. Also, a bluish tint is around the whole right side of the coin. Unfortunately, this part of the coins falls into a shadow on my pics so it is not that clear to see. I am looking at the coin right now. Its like a gun metal blue. It is really prominent around the ERTY in Liberty. Also on the reverse side of the coin, it is really noticeable around the "OF AMERICA"
Ella is truely "golden" Chris, but I prefere to subscribe to these guys..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AkU9iXdhY4 Nothing to do with coins mind ya.....(bit off topic?)
Sure, if you could buy me this one to replace it. http://cgi.ebay.com/1976-D-TYPE-1-PCGS-MS66-TONED-MS-66-IKE-REGISTRY-N-R_W0QQitemZ380170026961QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item5883e63fd1#ht_500wt_956
While I agree that luster plays a large part in determining the eye appeal of toning, I don't ever recall golden toning by itself demanding a premium price. That isn't to say I don't like it, I do. Not a Buffalo, but a pretty golden nickel just the same. I actually think that dramatic toning would take away from the strike of this wonderful coin. The subtle golden color is very complimentary. A toned Peace Dollar that David Hall can be proud of! And since we are showing off our SMS Jeffs, Here is mine with gold & violet on the reverse.
Yep! When Paul joins the conversation, you better bring da money!!! Nice coins Paul! Love that SMS Jefferson!
Agreed! plus that coin has some spots at 9 and 8 oclock on the reverse and maybe a dark mark above the head on obverse that I wasn't crazy about. I also can't see the purported tone in that coin. There seems to be some bag-like marks here and there too.
Not the greatest pics indeed, but could be a gem in hiding. Plus, I need this registry coin to replace my registry coin. It helps when you keep the grades the same.
Chris, that was just a commentary on registry sets in general. I think the whole registry set thing is a bunch o' bunk. Just a whole bunch of "I've got the best", and you've got %^it. Look at me...
Had several gold toned nickels, never paid a premium for them and don't think I received a premium when I sold them. Now if there were other colors of toning and the eye appeal was nice, then that's different story golden no cents 1883 (ms64) lightly golden w/ cents 1883 (ms66) not sure why I didn't crop the images to be the same size on that one
