I wonder if it is a half unit to the correct direction Dolphin. I have a Hieron II Bull that normally butts LEFT, and I have one at a half the size that butts RIGHT. very difficult to find (I don't want to say "RARE", but it was how it was described.)

They are all light. Its just copying a solidus design. There is also sogdian bronze coins imitating Byzantine gold coins.

Here are some interesting articles about a 7th century royal tomb discovered in 2011 in Mongolia (Shoroon Bumbagar tomb), that contained Byzantine coins and imitations. This one has mainly illustrations, and this is an interview with an archeologist. By the way, Shoroon Bumbagar, province of Bulgan, is 1000 miles east of Sogdia. I'm curious of the exact description of the coins.

I find anything about the silk road to be fascinating. Another really exotic area to collect.

Just as an update. Markov marked on the flip originally that the coin was found in northern Afghanistan, but had guessed a mint in Xinjiang as its origin. No telling why he believed Xinjiang, but at least we know its find spot.
