Before I sold my half of Alabama Silver 2012,I think was about 2006 / 2007 Pcgs sent out our monthly newsletter it said basically more submissions could yield a extra consideration on grades . So that one item I posted before but page got lost when CoinTalk changed format last summer. I think on Modern coins Ngc is the best otherwise why would they have the Official Grading Service of the Ana. Both have stockholders Pcgs just uses a different marketing plan that more demanding of Official Submissions outlets. I do know it was almost 10% higher to put there logo on our window and door. Ngc just charged once a year sent logo item and thing like that more often than Pcgs . Pcgs billed us monthly rarely sent logo item to pull more customers. Both are America best Tpg but choices are personal so pick who you want.
I admit that I prefer NGC for some pretty sketchy reasons. The ANA status is one and I am an ANA fanatic. I have NEVER been to a Central States. I am in PA, but I've NEVER been to a PAN, except for the one that was an ANA fall show in 2011 in dahntahn Pittsburgh. I've been to exactly one FUN, January 2013 (12?). I've never been to Long Beach. But I have been to 11 WFM's and NMS's. I just love the crap out of the ANA! Oh, I've been to 2 NYINC's, many years apart, and a handful of Whitman's. I think I caught ANA Fanboy's Disease from John and Nancy Wilson, the carriers of it. The other reason I like NGC is the slabs themselves. They feel solid and substantial and secure. They (the firm, not the slabs) also seem far more welcoming to collector submissions. I don't do much with dealers as 95%+ of my raw coins come from the auction channel, local mostly. And as I wrote up thread, except for some aging eyes, I might be a grading Idiot Savant of some kind. Or half of an Idiot Savant at least, right? I read like a fiend and try to keep up to date on industry taste trends. I like some, and think others are stupid, but I realize it's hard to stand alone athwart a trend. I also once nearly died, and I have the distinct sensation of living in "extra innings". I am an annoying Edit ~ please read rules about abbrev. /language at times, and that's because I already died once, metaphorically. No one can hurt me any more, so I put up with less garbage than I used to. If life ever would get too unbearable, all I have to do is stop taking my BP meds, and I'll stroke out in about a week, and everybody can kiss my rump. Immortality and hyper mortality are both liberating things.
The bubble has popped. 70's:http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-W-50th...98?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item540f2ea5c6 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-W-50th...33?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item5d4f54ade5 And good luck with getting 1350 raw. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Gold-G...96?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4626625870 http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-W-Kenn...08?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2ed5d0400c
I could see this coming. Too many amateur flippers trying to make a quick buck. People are sitting there sweating with a $6000.00 credit card bill, selling them for whatever they can get.
I don't watch it day to day. How badly are the gold BHOF prices eroding, of course keeping in mind that's not a mint to demand coin?
Given the most recent sales figures, I'm wondering if this issue will be less minted to demand and more un-minted to demand. Are there any issues where the number of slabbed coins (never mind the number of slabbed 70s) actually exceeds the number left raw? If enough of the post-initial-rush coins go back to the Mint...
This WOULD happen to the Saddle Ridge Hoard IF Don Kagin had a news conference where he said, "Yeah, we had a survey done of the land and it appears there may be 8-10 thousand more cans out there. We will only dig stuff up as we need it, oh, and you know some of those rare dates? Yeah, maybe not s'much any more." The whole 1903-O silver dollar thing all over again.
Kurt; Although we have a difference of opinion about the ANA's responsibilities during the last convention, I like your style and viewpoint on some of the other issues in this thread. I did catch the lower case "g" in your one comment so I wasn't upset by it. In fact I liked the statement and the implied intent you made with it. If there was a way greed could be taken out of capitalism, it wouldn't be the target it is now, by many extreme anti-free market advocates.
Thanks Sam, that means a lot to me. I'm an ANA annoying fanboy and I admit it. On greed, I think sometimes too many capitalist leaning guys go "all in" for the quick buck opportunity without planning for what comes next in Phase 2 as an overheated market matures. It seems the Mint is intentionally making each release a little different to keep everybody thinking, and some others aren't doing the thinking. It looks like a few big dealers may take a haircut this time. Once bitten, twice shy.
The other thing that will be interesting is how the umpteen million different details on slab labels diverge in value .... or don't. First this, ANA that, different cities. ¡Caramba!
If Vegas Vic is really in Vegas, why would I not be surprised? The conversation I paraphrased in my post happened at McCarran. I bet he drove a "Beemer" too.
Cool. I have a "bucket list" item to tour Death Valley and Vegas flights are reasonable. I've won multiple awards for a photograph I took at Valley of Fire S.P., north of you.
Unbelievably I was able to pick up a Ngc ER for $1400 net. I hate to admit this because it makes me feel bad but I'm gonna get my coins from pcgs in the morning crack at least 4/5 pr69s and return them to the mint. After all this I think I would still rather have the 290 or so silver eagles that would buy.
