If you look at the PCGS price guide (which is overpriced and can't really be used for purchasing)...you will see how much these coins jump based on a single grade point. Again, I wouldn't use the guide for buying...but it gives you a relative idea on how a very small grade change can make a large price difference.

Here is the PCGS numbers for a 1925 (common date) St. Gaudens Double Eagle:

AU55: $1575

MS60: $1580

MS62: $1660

MS63: $1750

MS64: $1820

MS65: $2400

MS66: $3600

MS67: $32,500

http://www.pcgs.com/Prices/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?MS=1&PR=1&SP=1&c=67&title=St. Gaudens $20

My point is...up until MS64 the price doesn't change a whole lot (especially when you factor in the melt is currently $1288.03).
Thanks. PCGS actually graded the coin MS64...which is a nice grade IMHO. I love this coin My point to the OP is...these coins can look amazing in grades below MS65. 1 grade point might not seem like a lot, but it does make a big difference on the wallet. Gaudens Double Eagle: AU55: $1575 MS60: $1580 MS62: $1660 MS63: $1750 MS64: $1820 MS65: $2400 MS66: $3600 MS67: $32,500 http://www.pcgs.com/Prices/PriceGuideDetail.aspx?MS=1&PR=1&SP=1&c=67&title=St. Gaudens $20 My point is...up until MS64 the price doesn't change a whole lot (especially when you factor in the melt is currently $1288.03).
